What are your hours? Do you work weekends?

I see clients Monday thru Friday between 9:30/10am and 5:30/6pm.  I am closed on weekends.  In-home appointments fall under these times as well and should be booked well in advance to allow for the extra time necessary.

I’m often asked why I don’t work later evenings and weekends.  The answer is simple. Having been in practice for over 20 years, I know that I do my best work during these hours.  I am not willing to sacrifice quality for convenience. That is not fair to you and wastes your time and money. In addition, I must prioritize my own self-care so I am able to do my best work.  This includes rest (massage is physically and emotionally demanding work), getting outside, and time with my daughter.  I work hard not to be a hypocrite. I won’t encourage you to practice self-care and then abuse my own body. That benefits nobody!  In short, these hours allow me to do my best work and you to get the best massage.

How often should I get a massage?

That’s a tough one!  Yet we are asked just this all the time.

There’s no one-size fits all answer. The real question is what are your goals from massage therapy?  Are you looking to create change or maintain an already balanced body?

As a general guideline, once a week creates change, every other week supports minimal change, and once a month helps maintain your body just the way it is. Most of our regulars come at least once a month depending on their schedules.  Some have appointments weekly or even multiple times a week.  Many have standing appointments so they don’t need to worry about “fitting it in”–it’s just part their wellness routine!

It’s a decision only you can make.  We will give you our opinion if you ask, but we will never pressure you.

What’s your approach to massage?

We view massage therapy and bodywork as prevention, not solution.  What does that mean?  That means we encourage our clients to maintain their health and prevent injury and illness, rather than wait until something is aching before seeking massage. We’d rather get a massage and stay healthy than go to the doctor for a “sick visit.” We will never pressure you or tell you what you must do.  Our goal is to educate and empower you to make the best decisions for your body.  Ultimately, you are the only one responsible for how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally.  We are here as guides in that journey.

Can you fix me?

No. We are not in the “fixing” business.  We will work with you to solve the immediate problem, get to the root of the issues, and give you tools for change.  But we can not fix you.  Only you can make the changes needed for that.

I can get a massage for a lot less at a massage club. Why should I choose you?

That’s a great question!  You can find massage services that are both less and more expensive.  We freely admit we are not the massage practice for everyone, but feel confident we meet the clients we are supposed to work with.  We recently had a prospective client ask us just this question, which made us sit down and think.

Why choose us?

  • Customization-  We really listen to a client and his/her body and customize the massage.  This is one of our main goals.  We  believe that each massage should be what you want and need that day.
  • Relationships- When we work with clients, their bodies speak to our hands and we know where to go and what needs to be done. We have a true passion for this work and for finding answers in an effort to help others. We don’t just “do massage”, we build relationships.
  • Experience-  We have over 25 cumulative years of professional experience. When you find therapists with a passion for the work, and the experience to back it up, then you will take your massage to the next level.
  • Time- We will not rush you or your massage.  You will receive your full scheduled time on the table, not a 50 minute “spa hour.”
  • Quality. Not Quantity- We schedule for quality so everyone gets 100% of our attention.  While we are capable of doing 6 or 7 hours of massage in a day it is not the norm. We focus on quality for our clients and self-care for your therapist.  The fact is if we aren’t taking care of ourselves, your massage will suffer.

In the end, you get to make the decision you feel works best for you.  You will get the most benefits from massage when you find a therapist who you like and whose work you like.  Go ahead.  Try different people.  If you’re making this type of commitment to your wellness, you should find what works best for you.

What are the benefits of massage?

Human touch is an important aspect of our health. Massage can have numerous benefits including relaxing the body, lowering blood pressure, relieving tension headaches, strengthening the immune system, increasing flexibility, reducing chronic pain, improving posture, increasing self-esteem & enhancing body imagine, improving concentration, improving sleep, and decreasing mental strain & anxiety. Who doesn’t want a healthier body and life?

My favorite benefit?  It feels good and forces me to take time for myself. You can’t beat that!

Are there people who shouldn’t have a massage?

There’s a type of bodywork for almost everyone, but there are some conditions where massage isn’t the best idea. If you think you might have a health issue that would prohibit massage, it’s best to check with your doctor and get written permission before you make the appointment. There may also be times where we feel you will be best served by another professional and we may refer you to someone else. For more information on contraindications, please contact us.

I have a cold. Is it okay to come get a massage?

For everyone’s health, if you are not feeling well (flu, cold, fever, “coming down with something”, getting over the stomach flu) you should reschedule for when you are feeling better. The idea is to help you feel better, not worse. This will also help your therapist stay healthy.  Likewise, we are not feeling well we may ask to reschedule your appointment.  Let’s keep our germs at home!

How many massages do you do a day?

We generally limit ourselves to 4 to 5 hours of massage a day.  It’s a good idea to plan ahead when making your appointments. If you schedule a regular recurring appointment, that time will be saved for you.  It’s like your own private time!

I know therapists who do 7 or 8 hours a day? Why don’t you?

We love what we do and want to give each person 100% of our attention and energy. The more massages we give in a day, the harder that can be. Massage is physically and mentally demanding work and we want to make sure we are taking care of ourselves as well as providing all our clients the highest quality massage we can. No one should be shortchanged in the massage therapy relationship.  Can we do more?  Yes.  Do we occasionally?  We do.  But in general, we keep our day to about 4 hours of massage so you get the quality you deserve.

What ages do you work on?

We have worked with clients from newborns to 99 years old. Young children generally can’t handle an hour massage, but we can add a nice mini-massage for your child when you’re having your session. We have worked on a number of older children/adolescents dealing with growing pains, sports related stress, and emotional stress. Each massage is customized to each client, so no worries there. Our ultimate goal is to find what works for each person we touch.

How do I make an appointment? What’s your cancellation policy?

Simply e-mail or call us and we’ll find a time that works. Provide us with as many details as possible in your message or e-mail to expedite the process.

We do have a 24-hour cancellation policy to avoid full charge for the appointment so make sure you change or cancel your appointment early to avoid being charged for the scheduled sessionYou are welcome to send a friend in your place if you can’t make your appointment.  Please let us know if that’s your plan.

Is there anything I need to do before you arrive for an in-home massage?

The massage table is about 80” x 32”, so consider where there’s room to have it set up with enough space to move all the way around if comfortably.  If we don’t have enough room to work, your massage will suffer and so will our bodies! Also, consider turning off your phones and sending kids and pets away so you can fully relax and get the most our of your time. (And it is your time.) We reserve the right to refuse a space that is too small and may cause us injury.

Will you do multiple massages in one visit?

Certainly! We often see couples back to back or even entire families. We’ll just need to know how many and for how long so we can schedule appropriately. And if it’s 3 or 4 massages, we might need a few minutes rest to make sure we keep our own bodies healthy and energized. Remember, this is basically a day’s work so call early to make your appointments.

How can I pay you?

We accept cash, checks, and major credit/debit cards. If you have a FSA/HSA, check and see if you can use it for massage!

Should I tip my therapist? How much?

We get asked these questions a lot.  Gratuities are always appreciated and never required.  The average gratuity for massage therapists is about 20% of the service price.  Rest assured, you will receive our highest quality service either way.

Do you offer gift certificates?

We are happy to provide you with a gift certificate if you’d like to share your passion for massage therapy with someone else.  Please contact us with the pertinent information and we will joyfully mail it out or you may come pick it up.  You may purchase gift certificates for either specific services or for a dollar amount.

Do you take insurance?

We do not accept any health insurance plans.  There are some flexible spending accounts that include massage so be sure to check your plan.  If you would like an invoice for insurance purposes, please let us know and we can e-mail you one.  If you ever need a receipt, we will be happy to e-mail that to you as well.

I’m also wondering….

Is there a question you have that we missed? Please feel free to contact us so we can help you.
